Seven castles stand along the Eisch in western Luxembourg, which is why the valley is signposted as the Vallée des Sept Châteaux. Ansembourg has two of them — the medieval castle high above the village and, a kilometre below it, the house Thomas Bidart built in 1639 with the terraced gardens. Hollenfels keeps a 39-metre keep of 1380.

Every stop is named in the route itself rather than chosen by a radius, spanning 12th century to 17th century.
The best known is Ansembourg Castle, ranked 2,225 of the 8,133 landmarks in the atlas by Wikipedia presence and real readership. The oldest is Ansembourg Castle, founded 1135.

Travelling it
The whole valley is a short drive west of Luxembourg City, and a marked footpath, the Sentier des Sept Châteaux, walks the length of it in about 37 kilometres.
