Finstermünz (called Altfinstermünz from 1856; Romansh: Vestmezia) is a medieval seat of justice and border fortification on the Via Claudia Augusta, in the gorge of the same name. The fort lies in the municipal area of Nauders in Tyrol, at the foot of the Finstermünz pass, where the old road used until 1854 from the Reschen Pass towards Pfunds and Landeck reaches the Inn river, which here forms the border between Tyrol (Austria) and Graubünden (Switzerland). A seat of justice already existed here before the 10th century.
