Castle
Castell de Subirats
🇪🇸 Spain · 11th century
Castell de Subirats rises at an altitude of 300 metres above the plain of the Panadés in a very good strategic position.
Historical documents of the 10th century speak of the castle as part of the defensive system of the Panadés. It was later enlarged in several stages. Its well-known keep was probably built in the 11th century. The historians A. Mauri and M. Soler note that it was probably demolished during the Reapers' War, 1640–1652, when it was taken by Don Pedro Fajardo, Marquis of Los Vélez, around the year 1641. Of this imposing complex, which occupied the whole summit, only part of the eastern wall, part of the construction known as the bastion and part of the main nucleus remain standing.
