Description

Castello Nipozzano is a medieval castle located in the municipality of Pelago, near Florence. It stands on the top of a hill, at about 350 metres of altitude, from which it overlooks the settlements of San Francesco and Pontassieve, where the Sieve joins the river Arno.

Its strategic position has, over the centuries, allowed control of the valleys below, crossed by the Roman road "Cassia Vetus".

The settlement of Castello Nipozzano is typical of the medieval period: the keep, in a dominant position, below the parade courtyard, together with the other buildings that develop along the access road.
