Castle of Egervár
🇭🇺 Hungary
The Castle of Egervár (Hungarian: Egervári várkastély) is one of the most important examples of medieval castles rebuilt during the Renaissance period in Central Europe, situated in Zala County, in Egervár. For a long period it formed part of Hungary's western line of defence. The castle lies about 700 m east of the centre of the village, on road 7427 leading to Vasboldogasszony.
The castle was built on a square plan with towers in the shape of Italian bastions at the corners. Under the terms of the Peace of Szatmár, which ended Rákóczi's uprising, the castle's defensive character had to be removed, and for this reason its northern, outer wing was demolished at the beginning of the 18th century.
