The Castle of Medellín is a 13th-century fortress located on a high hill on the left bank of the Guadiana river, next to the town of Medellín in the Spanish municipality of the same name, situated some 103 km from Badajoz, capital of the province of the same name, in the autonomous community of Extremadura, 44 km from Mérida and 89 km from Cáceres. It stands on a hill beside the Guadiana and the town and has an irregular, roughly elliptical plan. It was declared a historic-artistic monument, the predecessor of the designation of Bien de Interés Cultural, on 3 June 1931.
