Castle of Nógrád
🇭🇺 Hungary
The Castle of Nógrád (Novigrad, that is, New Castle) is Hungary's oldest stone castle with an irregular ground plan and an inner tower. It is the eponymous castle of the village of Nógrád, nestling in the interior of the Börzsöny encircled in a semicircle by the Ipoly river, and it crowns a large plateau rising sixty metres above the surrounding countryside.
It rises at a relatively central spot in the built-up area of the village, and is most easily reached from the main street (along road 12 318 branching south from road 12 123), and from there by a short, easy walk.
