The Fortress of São João stood on the island of Santo Antônio (today the island of Vitória), in the narrows formed by the bay of Vitória, opposite the Penedo hill, on the coast of the present-day Brazilian state of Espírito Santo. On the remains of this fort the clubhouse of the Clube de Regatas Saldanha da Gama was erected.
