Gomel Castle – a timber-and-earth defensive and administrative structure that existed from the 16th to the 18th century.
In the 16th century the complex of buildings serving the administrative and defensive functions of the town of Gomel was transformed into a feudal castle. It had an oval plan measuring about 200 by 90 m and an area of about 1.3 ha. From the town it was separated by the Hamiejuk stream and a moat, while on the other side the Sozh river flowed around it. It had timber-and-earth fortifications.
At the beginning of the 19th century the Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace was erected in its place.
