Haus Bodelschwingh
🇩🇪 Germany
Haus Bodelschwingh is a moated castle in the Dortmund district of Bodelschwingh, which belongs to the borough of Mengede. It is one of 18 noble seats in Dortmund and is regarded as the largest and most prestigious complex in the city area.
The castle was the ancestral seat of the von Bodelschwingh family and developed from a simple two-room house of the late Middle Ages, which was extended in the Renaissance style in the 16th/17th century. Through the marriage of the heiress it passed at the end of the 19th century to the family zu Innhausen und Knyphausen, whose property the castle still is today.
The complex is entered as an architectural monument in the list of monuments of the city of Dortmund. The associated castle park in the style of a landscape garden has been a protected monument since 1983. The manor house serves today as the residence of the family zu Innhausen und Knyphausen; the buildings of the outer bailey are let for residential and business purposes. The complex can be visited each year on the Open Monument Day.
