Kinizsi Castle, also known as the castle of Nagyvázsony (castrum Wasonkew, that is, the castle of Vázsonykő), is one of the notable strongholds of the Hungarian Middle Ages. It stands in western Transdanubia, in the village of Nagyvázsony in Veszprém county, not far from the Veszprém–Tapolca road, in the Vázsony basin. The construction of the castle, built on the bank of the Eger stream (Vázsonyi-Séd), is linked to the event when, in the mid-1390s, László Vezsenyi, the table-server master of Queen Mary of Anjou, decided to abandon the building of Zádor Castle and chose Vázsony as his new seat.
