Lerici Castle is a polygonal fortification which rises in a dominant position on the rocky promontory of the inlet of Lerici, in the province of La Spezia.

The castle was built from 1152 onwards and underwent numerous transformations at the hands of the maritime republics, chiefly by the Republic of Genoa and, to a lesser degree, by the Republic of Pisa, which contested possession of it in the middle of the 13th century on account of its strategic position. With the last alteration of 1555 the castle came to assume its present appearance when, at the wish of the Genoese Offizio di San Giorgio, the works were completed and, to commemorate the event, the plaque still visible today on the entrance portal was applied.
