From this hill it commands views over the middle valley of the Vinalopó and forms part of the network of castles and towers that during the Middle Ages constituted an important system of control and defence of Andalusi territory against the Christian kingdoms of Castile and Aragon.
In 1931 it was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument belonging to the National Artistic Treasure, and it is therefore a Bien de Interés Cultural in the category of monument.
