Rogóźno Castle

Rogóźno Castle (German: Ordensburg Roggenhausen) – a castle in the village of Rogóźno (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship), entered in the register of immovable monuments of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The castle lies between the Osa and the Gardęga, and was built in 1250–1260 by the Teutonic Order. Initially a timber-and-earth watchtower, at the end of the 13th century it was transformed into a masonry castle. From 1285 to 1333 it was the seat of a commandry, and later (until 1454) of a vogtship. After the Teutonic Knights' defeat at the Battle of Grunwald in 1410 it was briefly occupied by Polish troops. Polish units again seized the castle in 1414 during the Hunger War. After the outbreak of the Thirteen Years' War it was taken by members of the Prussian Confederation. Before leaving the castle the Teutonic Knights set it on fire, but the resulting damage was not very serious.
