Träby borg
🇸🇪 Sweden
Träby borg, also Trebyborg, is a hill fort situated about 700 metres north of Träby, formerly Treby, a village in Segerstad parish on south-eastern Öland. It consists of three ring forts built together in a north-east to south-west direction, mainly built of limestone. The north-eastern and middle ones are oval, the south-western is almost round. The inner diameter of the north-eastern fort is 48-66 metres, that of the middle one 51-65 metres and that of the south-western one 38-44 metres. The wall thickness is 7-10 metres. Best preserved is the middle fort, where the crown of the wall lies 1.6 metres above the courtyard.
Rhezelius stated in 1634 that there were 30 house foundations in the north-eastern fort, 32 in the middle one and 14 in the south-western one. The fort's building period has been determined to be the Migration Period after trial excavations in 1966.
In the south-western fort a new homestead, Christineborg, was built at the end of the 18th century. Now only its foundations remain.
