Mariental, informally also Bibs or Bip, is a two-storey castle (pentagonal in plan) with two towers (oval in plan) and an inner courtyard at the confluence of the Slavyanka and Tyzva rivers in the southern part of Pavlovsk. Around it, entirely according to the rules of the bastion system, earthen fortifications were laid out (bastions, ravelins, lunettes, flèches). It is regarded as an architectural whim of Paul I.
