Ruin
Castell del Piló
🇪🇸 Spain
Castell del Piló stands on the summit of a rocky hill near Albalat de Taronchers, in Valencia (Spain). It is currently in ruins; nevertheless, part of what must have been the defensive towers can still be made out, along with several ruined elements of its walls and other remains of ancillary buildings.
In 1238 James I of Aragon granted the town of Albalat and its castle to the abbot of Fuentclara. Later it passed into the hands of Raimundo de Toris, who sold it in 1379 to the married couple Jofré de Blanes and Caterina de Bonastre, who added it to the possessions forming the barony of Segart. Juan Castellsens de Villarrasa bought it in 1482 and years later it once again came to belong to the crown.
