Castillo palacio de Bicorp
🇪🇸 Spain · 16th century
Castillo palacio de Bicorp in the province of Valencia (Spain), situated in the historic centre of the town, in the Plaza del Castillo, was built in the year 1604 in the Renaissance style.
Luís de Castellà Olim de Vilanova was created 1st Baron of Bicorp and 1st Baron of Benedrís in 1392, by King John I of Aragon. Bicorp had previously belonged to the Orís lineage until that year, with Martí Sanxis d'Orís.
On its façade it preserves the main door with a round arch framed by a pediment on pilasters with the baron's coat of arms divided into six quarters with the emblems of the Castellà and Vilanova lineages.
At the rear, stretches of wall with their loopholes are preserved, as well as some column capitals in the interior and the hand-carved doors, which bear lion heads.
It had a cistern of considerable capacity which is still preserved today.
Its interior, which was later given over to carpentry and used as a cinema hall until 1989, now houses a spinning mill, and the ends of the old façade, previously occupied by towers, are now occupied by dwellings.
Inside there is a fireplace which preserves two consoles with volutes that formed part of its decoration.
