Castle
Castello di Gallipoli
🇮🇹 Italy
The Castello di Gallipoli is a coastal fortress on the imposing mole at the far east of the island on which the town centre of Gallipoli in the Italian region of Apulia lies. It is almost entirely surrounded by the sea. It was probably built as early as the 11th century on the foundations of an old Roman fortress and then rebuilt in the 13th century, in Byzantine times. It was rebuilt several times over the centuries by the conquerors who took it.
