The Castle of Monforte de Lemos is a castle located on Monte de San Vicente, in the city of Monforte de Lemos. The walls, dated between the 13th and 15th centuries, defended the city. The wall had a series of defensive towers and several gates, of which only two survive, the Porta da Alcazaba or da Pescadería (the oldest, dated to the 13th century), and the Porta Nova (15th century). The castle suffered major damage during the Great Irmandiño War (1467-1469), after which it was rebuilt.
The best-preserved structure of the fortress is the keep, a structure 30 m high, 13 m on each side, with walls 3 m thick.
