The castle of Rugat or castle of Ayelo is located in the municipality of Ayelo de Rugat, in the province of Valencia (Spain). It is a medieval castle of Arab origin that served as a frontier fortress between the taifas of Játiva and Denia, until its conquest in 1258 by King James I.
It later formed part of the network of fortresses of Penacadell and was afterwards ceded to Bernat de Bellvís; his descendants moved to the neighbouring Palace of Castellón de Rugat, and it was definitively abandoned around 1500.
