Château de Miromesnil
🇫🇷 France · 15th century
The Château de Miromesnil (French: Château de Miromesnil) stands in the commune of Tourville-sur-Arques in the Seine-Maritime department, which lies in Normandy in northern France. The name of the château goes back to the French nobleman Armand Thomas Hue, vicomte de Miromesnil, a minister of the Ancien Régime under Louis XVI.
The château is known as the birthplace of Guy de Maupassant. The writer was born on 5 August 1850 on the first floor of the building. His parents had rented the château at the time.
The estate includes a large garden and an extensive park, which carry the label Jardin remarquable of the French Ministry of Culture. Since 6 February 1945 the château building has been inscribed on the French monument list as a Monument historique. The château chapel belonging to the estate and dating from the 15th century has been classified as an independent Monument historique since July 1957.
