Qasr el `Uweinid is situated south-west of southern Azraq (Jordan) and was built on a height overlooking a meadow rich in trees. The castle was built of basalt stones and has an inner courtyard surrounded by a group of rooms. It is thought to have been a Roman fort that served as a protection centre for the trade routes.
