Description

Wittenberg Palace is the former residence of the Saxon electors. It was completely rebuilt from 1489 and, on its completion in 1525, was one of the most magnificent fortified palaces of the early Renaissance in Germany. After fires in 1760 and 1814, and the decline in importance of the town of Wittenberg following the Schmalkaldic War and the Congress of Vienna, little remains of the building's former splendour.
