It lies close to the south-western course of the Tortum river, on a steep rocky elevation that is difficult to access. It was frequently mentioned by Turkish chroniclers of the 16th century (such as İbrahim Peçevi and others) in connection with the military campaigns of conquest of the Ottoman army. Many parts of the castle have collapsed, but it can be said that it has a rectangular plan. The eastern and northern walls are partly present.
