Uqimerioni Fortress (Georgian უქიმერიონი) was a historical fortress in western Georgia, an important defensive structure of the Kingdom of Egrisi. It is first mentioned in the sources in the 6th century. It is assumed that it lay along the Tskhenistsqali gorge on the road that connected the Mukhurisi region with Lechkhumi and Svaneti. It is assumed that the ruins of the fortress on the right bank of the river Tskhenistsqali belong to Uqimerioni. According to other opinions, Uqimerioni is an old fortress on the hill in Kutaisi. Uqimerioni gained particular importance during the Iranian-Byzantine war in the 6th century; according to the Byzantine historian Procopius of Caesarea, the holder of the fortresses of Uqimerioni and Kutaisi had firm control over the eastern part of Egrisi, Lechkhumi and Svaneti.
