The Citadelle Pillau, since 1888 also Fort Stiehle (after Gustav von Stiehle), was laid out in 1626 in Pillau, today Baltiysk. It is a regular pentagon, surrounded by a moat and ramparts. The outworks, however, were constantly exposed to silting. The armoury, the magazines and the arsenals belonged to the fortress.
