Wesel citadel

The Wesel Citadel is the largest intact fortification system of the Rhineland, built 1688–1722 in Wesel. It was built according to plans by Johan de Corbin, in the form of a pentagonal star, with each point of the star being a bastion. The citadel was the core of the fortress of Wesel, and is currently used as a cultural centre.

Wesel citadel staat op plaats 3.704 van 5.793 in de bekendheidsranglijst van deze atlas en op plaats 268 van de 349 die de atlas in Duitsland in kaart brengt. Gebouwd in 1800, en daarmee ouder dan 15% van de gedateerde bouwwerken in de atlas — een van de 360 bouwwerken in de atlas die uit de 18e eeuw stammen.
