Fortress
Fort Revelin
🇭🇷 Croatia
Fort Revelin (Croatian: tvrđava Revelin) – a fort in the complex of fortifications of Dubrovnik, outside the circuit of the town walls. A single structure on an irregular quadrilateral plan, on the extension of the north-eastern corner of the town walls, in the vicinity of the Ploče gate.
It was erected in 1463–1551 under the direction of, among others, Antonio Ferramolino of Bergamo. During its construction a regulation was in force that everyone arriving in Dubrovnik by sea had to bring a stone of their own body weight. The fort survived the catastrophic earthquake of 1667, after which it became the seat of the cathedral treasury, the town treasury and the authorities of the Republic of Ragusa. In 1983–86 fruitful archaeological research was carried out here. Today it serves as a stage for performances and concerts.
