House Bloemendal
🇳🇱 Netherlands
Bloemendal Castle (also Schloss Blumenthal, Dutch Kasteel Bloemendal) is a palatial manor house on the western edge of the centre of Vaals. Built at the end of the 18th century as a private residence, it became a convent and boarding school in the mid-19th century, which existed until the 1970s. Since 1992 the complex has been run as a hotel. The castle lies 500 metres from the German border on the Bloemendalstraat, a street parallel to the Maastrichterlaan, the main thoroughfare in Vaals. An interior visit is not possible because of the hotel operation, but the castle park and garden are open to the public.
