Isar Baga

Isar Baga (Ukrainian: Бага, Crimean Tatar: Bağa, Багъа) is the ruin of a fortified settlement of the 9th–10th century. It is located 1 km north of the village of Novobobrovka, on the slope of Mount Tash-Koy. The walls, 1.5–2 m thick and laid dry of rubble, survive in places around the perimeter of the mountain; inside the fortification the shells of buildings, pieces of roof tile and red-slip vessels are visible, by which the settlement has been dated.

The first historian to report on the fortress was Vasily Khristoforovich Kondaraki in 1868; in 1909 the fortification was briefly mentioned by Nikolai Repnikov, and still more briefly, in the context of the pottery found at the settlement, it occurs in A. L. Yakobson. Archaeological excavations at the hillfort have not been carried out and it is not described in the scholarly literature.

One hundred metres to the north-west of the isar lies a major monument of the Taurian culture — the Tash-Koy Taurian stone box complex.
