Philippsruhe Castle
🇩🇪 Germany · 17th century
Philippsruhe Castle was built from about 1700 to 1725 for the Hanau count Philipp Reinhard near Kesselstadt as a Baroque palace in the west of the town of Hanau.
Its present appearance goes back largely to rebuildings of the Gründerzeit: Landgrave Frederick William of Hesse-Rumpenheim lived at the palace for only four years (from 1880 until his death in 1884), which is little in view of the preceding five years of rebuilding; the rooms of the "bel étage", today occupied by the Historical Museum of Hanau, nevertheless predominantly reflect his taste in the Renaissance style, despite the largely lost furnishings.
