Sochaczew Castle
🇵🇱 Poland · 14th century
Sochaczew Castle, the Castle of the Dukes of Masovia, is a castle situated in Sochaczew, on the river Bzura. Built in the second half of the 14th century, it was the seat of the Sochaczew castellany, first recorded in 1221. It was the site of the assembly of magnates and dukes in 1377 at which the first written body of laws for the whole of Masovia, the so-called Sochaczew Statutes, was enacted. It was destroyed during the Kościuszko Uprising and partly demolished in the 19th century.
