The Vologda Kremlin (in Russian: Волого́дский кре́мль, or (Город, Иасон-город)) is an architectural ensemble situated in the central part of the city of Vologda, erected as a fortress in 1567 on the orders of Ivan the Terrible. It played a role in the defence of the city during the 16th and 17th centuries. Around the 1820s the walls and towers of the kremlin were destroyed. Since then the Archbishop's Court, which is also provided with powerful rampart walls and faces Kremlin Square, is sometimes called the little kremlin or the kremlin.
