Dongsheng Wei is located in Laowei village, Zhengang township, Anyuan county, Ganzhou city, Jiangxi province, China, and was listed in 2013 among the seventh batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.
Dongsheng Wei is the largest square-plan Hakka walled house; it was begun in the twenty-second year of the Daoguang era of the Qing (1842) and, after three enlargements, took 25 years to complete. The walled house together with its ancillary structures and outer main gate covers an area of 30,391 square metres. The whole enclosure faces west with its back to the east, in the shape of the character 回; within the enclosure there are 199 rooms in all, with nine courtyards and eighteen halls, commonly called "nine wells and eighteen halls".
