Fort VII Zbarż

The ruin of Fort VII Zbarż of the Warsaw Fortress (also called Fort "Zbarż") is located in the Warsaw district of Włochy and was part of the outer defensive ring of the Warsaw Fortress. The fort was built in the 1880s. Within the defensive ring it lay between the forts "Okęcie" and "Służew". The remains of the fort lie today – concealed by several office buildings – in the immediate vicinity of the terminal building of Warsaw Frédéric Chopin Airport.

The artillery fort was built in the pentagonal form customary in Warsaw, but provided with only one rampart instead of the otherwise usual two. The exact date of construction is unknown. The fort, of which only ruins still exist, is owned by the Polish agency for military property (Agencja Mienia Wojskowego). Parts of the outer areas (esplanade and in the gorge area) have been used for allotment garden settlements. The flooded, formerly presumably dry defensive ditch, which today also puts the access to the casemates in the rear area under water, is a popular fishing spot because of its abundance of fish.
