Weiyuan Fortress is a walled fort in Zhenhai district, Ningbo city, Zhejiang province, China. The fort is located on the summit of Zhaobao Hill and was built in the thirty-ninth year of the Jiajing era of the Ming (1560); it went through four wars, against the Japanese pirates, the British, the French and the Japanese, and it also reflects the craftsmanship and characteristics of early city wall construction in eastern Zhejiang. In 1996 Weiyuan Fortress, together with the other coastal defence installations at the mouth of Zhenhai, was included in the Zhenhai estuary coastal defence sites listed among the fourth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.
